One on One counseling

Confidentiality

&

As a school counselor I strive to build trust with the students I work with. In order to build trust I must maintain confidentiality. I always discuss with students and parents the parameters of confidentiality.
It is my ethical and legal duty to disclose to students in an appropriate and culturally sensitive way the potential risks, benefits and alternatives to proposed counseling.

informed consent

What your child says during counseling is confidential. There are some exceptions to confidentiality that you should be aware of. I am required by law, and by professional ethics, to break confidentiality if:
(a) I believe your child presents a threat to self or others.
(b) If I become aware of, or suspect, child or adult abuse or neglect.

(c) When ordered by the court.
